Our Mission
About Weaving Worlds:
Weaving Worlds is a culmination of 20+ years of active and passive study on building community systems and a new education model that places Earth conservation, through indigenous empowerment, at its forefront. Weaving Worlds’ functions are to aid in the preservation of indigenous cultural wisdom and facilitate financial sovereignty through direct financial and infrastructure support of entrepreneurial endeavors and community projects.
Funds/support are raised in a variety of ways, through curated retreats, direct donations, crowd sourcing, grants, volunteering, and many other potentials that are yet to be explored, and are passed on to the communities in the form of direct donations and micro-loans.
A note about micro-loans: Though there are many micro-loan programs currently in existence, Weaving Worlds differs in its larger vision. Working directly with indigenous and undermined cultures throughout the world, our goal is to build relationships with the communities of loan recipients as a foundation for developing a global interconnected network of learning communities. The purpose of these communities is to create a usable curriculum of applied indigenous teachings by providing a platform for indigenous leaders to impart the most important wisdom of caring for the Earth.
Weaving Worlds believes that financial empowerment is key to cultural preservation and cultural preservation is key to Earth regeneration. Though capitalism can be a destructive force, it can be used to the advantage of those typically subjugated to its ceaseless appetite for resources. The larger and more distant goals of Weaving Worlds are to facilitate the regeneration of indigenous communities and weave a global network of inclusive communities, that are supported with a sustainable base income for all community members. This clearly leans toward a socialistic structure, however capitalism for now and the foreseeable future, still drives the world. This is why, Weaving Worlds, seeks to create a hybrid system of capitalism and socialism. The communities benefit from a fair approach of shared resources and base income, yet interfaces with the world through conscious capitalism. All, of course, led by the communities themselves.
An overview of the process:
Large Projects from Community Partners:
These are long term large visions for the communities that culminate in land purchases for repatriation of indigenous lands to build food and financial sovereignty, education centers, and communities of scale. Land purchases are then allocated to a trust, held collectively by Weaving Worlds and the community with strict bylaws to maintain the project and ethical use of the land in perpetuity. These projects are independently led by vetted groups within the communities whom have the same or similar visions to Weaving Worlds. Weaving Worlds acts as collaborator for support to facilitate funding and help in establishing infrastructure, operations, and accountability.
Education is a key component in Weaving Worlds’ vision. Beyond the traditional and generally ethnocentric understanding of higher education, when we, Weaving Worlds, refer to education, we are referring to creating a global awareness of indigenous teachings that will aid in mindfulness and Earth regeneration. The education centers are hubs for information exchange, that incorporates modern tools, e.g., science and technology, which have useful applications in community development, especially when woven with ancestral knowledge. Please see our project funding page, Get Involved, to learn more about how you can help.
Smaller Projects from within existing communities:
These are projects with smaller needs that can be funded quickly, however each project has a repayment accountability of 1/3 of the total amount funded paid back over 1-year time (or less), plus a small interest fee. The reason for this is to integrate into the project, intention, accountability, and a deeper sense of ownership.
The 1/3 is payed back in 1 of 4 ways:
1. Cash
2. Product – that will then be sold through our ecommerce site
3. Class/Workshop – that will become part of our online educational offerings
4. Directly working within the community (Must be approved by Weaving Worlds)
Providing micro-loans is one avenue of financial empowerment that allows entrepreneurial members of the community access to financial resources that are in place to benefit the community as a whole. And as Weaving Worlds reinvests the principle of loan repayments into building profitable education centers, the financial empowerment evolves to financial sovereignty and the community then becomes the source for providing funding to the future endeavors of individuals within the community. An aspect that needs to be addressed within the broader spectrum of micro financing is that Weaving Worlds does not offer loans for the sole purpose of investing to generate capital to benefit the loan provider, which contrasts with the broader range of micro financing organizations. The purpose of the loans is community empowerment, therefore, loan terms and fees are kept as simple as possible, with the intention of offering as much support to the recipient as possible, to encourage the success of their endeavor.
Funds are raised through crowd sourcing, donations, and grants and can be earmarked for specific loan accounts that Weaving Worlds is funding, earmarked to general funds for Weaving Worlds operations, or allocated to multiple accounts by percentage. All funds that are paid back to Weaving Worlds are dedicated for reinvestment to land purchase. Please see our project funding page, Get Involved to learn more about how you can help.
Weaving Worlds Online Community:
WW is working to create an online curriculum to be accessed by the global community with concrete and applicable knowledge and skills. Each contributor is paid according to fair established guidelines, and all other profits are to be allocated to the ongoing land purchases
Weaving Worlds on the ground:
This is to offer aid to the most vulnerable in the communities through supplying basic necessities; food, clothing, shelter. These items are distributed via our community partners. Direct donations of resources are accepted as well as financial donations allocated for this purpose. Please see our funding page, Get Involved, to learn more about how you can help.
Every project funded is visible online and through social media with project updates, photos, and budget progress with complete transparency of funds for accountability to our donors and community.
